Eric Hu is an interdisciplinary artist and award-winning designer, currently serving as the Director of Design at SSENSE. In 2010, he was awarded the ADC Young Gun award for his work. His work ranges from architecture to music and combines many different mediums. Hu’s creative process includes drawing, painting, and digital media. In his work, he explores the relationship between art and design. His diverse background and creative approach has led him to work for clients as diverse as Apple, Nike, and Target.

Dr. Eric Hu is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at CSUN. He has previously been an Associate Professor at King University in TN and the Director of its Bachelor of Information Technology program. He received his M.A. from Yangzhou University in China and his M.S.B.A and Ph.D. in Business Administration from the Fogelman College of Business and Economics at the University of Memphis. He is a published author with numerous international awards and publications in top IS journals.
Dr. Hu holds degrees in Music Theory, Piano Performance, and Jazz Studies. He has given master classes throughout the world and has been a frequent adjudicator for the Music Teacher’s Association of California. He has also held faculty positions at the University of Southern California and Scripps College. While at CSUN, he enjoys using his musical skills to support several nonprofit organizations and community projects. In addition to his research, he also volunteers his time to help others in need.
Multidisciplinary Creative Director
Eric Hu is a multidisciplinary creative director based in Montreal, Canada. He is an art director and designer who advocates visual communication across all media. His interdisciplinary approach is based on principles of research and delivering meaningful experiences. His work has been commissioned by clients in the cultural and commercial sectors. He studied fine art before pursuing a career in design. He now divides his time between New York and Montreal.
A former art director and creative director at Nike, Eric Hu was the founder of a design studio called Nothing in Common, which created unique products and experiences for a range of clients. Eric Hu has also been recognized as a Young Gun by the Art Directors Club of New York. Born in Los Angeles, Hu earned his MFA from Yale University, where he won the Bradbury Thompson Memorial Prize. He also has worked for other notable companies, including GAP and Nike.
Eric Hu is a creative director, typographer, and multidisciplinary designer. He is known for his nuanced typography and maximalist image making. He has worked with a variety of clients, including Nike, SSENSE, and Mold Magazine. He has also taught at Parsons The New School for Design and has exhibited at the ADC Gallery and Museum of Art and Design. His portfolio includes work for Nike and Prada, as well as for a variety of startups.
In his work, Hu challenges the audience to rethink conventional perspectives. His work compels viewers to take a second look at the familiar, and makes them question their own assumptions. Many of the changes appear as if they are mistakes, and others demand immediate attention. Hu’s work also aims to make corporate branding more authentic, which is a challenge in a culture where much of the work comes off as saccharine.
Designer and conceptual thinker, Eric Hu, has already made his name in the design world. His studio, HU, has a wide-ranging scope and combines art, technology, and design. Its work subverts expectations and lends a hand to diverse graphic disciplines. Born in Los Angeles, Hu earned his BFA from the Art Center College of Design and his MFA from Yale University. Hu now divides his time between New York City and Montreal. He is also a member of the global art collective, Eternal Dragonz, known for their diaspora-influenced music. His work is not just for corporate clients, however. His art is a powerful statement on the value of creativity in the digital age.
